While there are various scientific advancements that provide formulas to get you the hair of your dreams, some traditional methods never get old. One of them is nourishing your hair with mineral rich coconut oil. The best part is they don’t sit on the surface, but rather seep into your cuticles and the innermost level of your scalp.
They not only moisturise your hair, but also repair damaged parts and strengthen it from the core. No matter which product you choose, warming it up before use makes the application more effective.
Coconut oil is also rich in fatty content so if you have extremely oily hair, this might not be the best option for you. You can check out some less fatty options such as extra virgin olive oil, or jojoba oil.
Nevertheless, they bear several gifts for your hair and there’s a product for every kind of texture. Take a look at the range of products me and my team recommend after effective testing.
Here’s how I evaluated the oils-
Protein Composition: It is a chief reason why coconut oil is applied so the products must retain the protein extracts for best results
Shine: The effectiveness of the oil can be known by the radiance of hair after use and hence it is an important factor
Damage protection: Coconut oil is also used to protect the hair from chemical products like shampoo or conditioner, and salon treatments, so the product needs to be rich in minerals and retain moisture
Packaging Process: Some products are packed after naturally cold pressing the coconuts and extracting the oil in its natural form. There are other products that go through certain refining processes or are infused with other elements. The effectiveness of the former process is more given its organic form
It is an organic oil with moisture lock technology that provides natural hydration to the hair making it extremely soft. Due to its milder texture, it can be blended with other essential oils to maximise the effect. It can be used for skin as well as hair.
I love the fact that I can use this oil for multiple purposes. I gently massaged it on my scalp at night and washed it in the morning. My hair felt soft and deeply moisturised. I intend to make my own concoctions along with this since it is so weightless. Being odourless can be a good and a bad thing both, but I would’ve preferred some fragrance.
- Adds smoothness to the hair
- Mild and weightless texture
- Removes dryness and retains moisture
- Lacks the sweet smell of essential oils
- May cause greasiness
- Bottle causes leakages, poor design
It is a Monoi coconut hair oil that finds its origins in the native Tahiti. The oil has nourishing and revitalising qualities for stronger and softer hair. It is also free from any sulphates, parabens or other harmful chemicals. It creates a barrier around the strands to protect it from dust or any form of damage.
I went by the recommendation and used it like a conditioner by taking a spoonful of oil. I only applied it on my strands leaving out the area closer to roots. It can be used on both dry and wet hair, but I put on dry hair to maintain uniformity in the evaluation process. It tamed my frizz to a great extent and has conditioning value. It also softened and detangled my hair.
- Free from chemicals and can be used for sensitive hair
- Can act as a replacement for conditioner
- Provides damage protection
- Adds lustre to the strands
- May turn oily for some textures
- Does not moisturise the roots
Provides a nutrient rich formula to strengthen the roots and helps fuel hair growth. It also controls frizz and detoxifies the texture. The coconut oil is blended with sunflower oil for improving the scalp health. It is a sustainable brand with ethical values.
It has a lightweight texture and didn’t feel too greasy when I applied it on my scalp. The aroma of coconut is also very faint and not too explicit. The results were decent and it softened my hair well. It is not so effective for frizz control.
- Safe for all hair types since it is free from chemicals
- Mild smell and can be blended with other oils
- Adds softness to the texture
- Changes aren’t very prominent
- Does not manage frizz effectively
- Results are not worth the price point
It is also a multipurpose oil since it can be used for hair, skin as well as aromatherapy. It is preservatives and chemical free, suiting all hair types. It contains antioxidants and several medicinal properties that can rejuvenate and moisturise the hair. It also claims to add volume and shine to the hair surface.
I find it as a good rebound for chemically treated hair. I applied a small amount to avoid greasiness and it produced good results. My hair feels soft and frizz free. I am also going to use it to make DIY hair masks to make the most of its properties.
- Versatile in form
- Reduces itchiness and moisturises
- Lightweight and no pungent smell
- Allergic reaction for sensitive hair
- Thin structure may not retain moisture
It is a cosmetic oil with easy absorption quality and provides intense moisturization. The oil is smooth, non-greasy and helps improve the health and strength of the hair. It provides UV light protection and helps with the dryness as well.
I applied it generously followed by a deep cleanse. It got seeped into my hair pretty fast and moisturised it. My hair feels soft and it does not turn the texture greasy. The effect stayed long and my hair didn’t feel frizzy as well.
- Absorbs into the roots and nourishes
- Does not turn greasy after use
- Turns strands soft and healthy
- Solidifies in cold conditions
- Not odourless as it claims
It is an organic product that penetrates through your scalp and builds a healthy base for hair growth. It is rich in antioxidants and restricts the pores from getting clogged that cause irritation. The oil is extracted by freshly p+ressing the seeds, knuckles and kernels from the plant. It has a faint nutty fragrance and it doubles up as a full body moisturiser too.
It reduced the dryness and made my hair really soft. I also felt the brittleness reduced to some extent and managed the frizz. I love this product because it delivers everything that it claims and really adds radiance to the hair too. You can use it if you have salon treated hair like mine.
- Makes the strands healthy
- Adds to the softness of hair
- Provides deep moisturization
- Works effectively for curly and wavy hair
- Does not leave greasy extracts
- May not find noticeable differences for certain hair types
The oil is organic and odourless carrying all the essential oils that help nourish the hair. They only contain medium chain triglycerides that make the formula rich and don’t leave the texture greasy. It does not solidify in colder conditions and has a high shelf life. It consists of a significant proportion of capric and caprylic acids that have antioxidant nutrients and prevent itchiness or any form of dryness.
I massaged a small proportion on my scalp and around the strands, since the formula is pretty concentrated. I felt a faint smell that was more sweet than coconut-like. The colour of the liquid is more yellow than I expected so that was off-putting. It does make the hair smooth but the change isn’t miraculous.
- Dispenses easily and non-greasy
- Lasts longer due to concentrated formula
- Adds moisture to the hair
- No prominent changes in texture
- Leads to hair loss for certain types of hair
- The smell may be unflattering for some
It is a luxurious product with an abundance of Vitamin E and fatty acids for strong and shiny hair. They claim that it is 100% raw without any discomforting odour or greasy remnants. It is freshly pressed and chilled, and has hydrating qualities. It is safe for all hair types.
I applied the oil two hours before washing my hair to allow it to seep into the roots. My hair turned soft and voluminous and I was in love with the texture. It is an easy way to keep my hair conditioned throughout the week. It added a shine to my hair and worked on the damaged areas as well.
- Sulphate, paraben and gluten free
- Makes hair shiny and voluminous
- Nourishes the scalp and facilitates hair growth
- Detangles and reduces frizz
- May turn greasy if not used in smaller proportion
